Incorporating the CTT and VTTA National Championships
25 - 26 June 2011

In 1999 The Brighton Mitre CC organized a 24 Hour time trial. The result saw Dave Shepherd of the Rother Valley CC win with a distance of 483 miles. This was the last time that the all day event was run on roads in the south east of England.

Having had ten years to recuperate from the stress and remembering only the elation of a job well done, Mike Haylor is planning a repeat of the event in 2011, this time under the auspices of the East Sussex Cycling Association.

Both the CTT and VTTA have confimred that their respective National Championships will be incorporated into the event.

AUDAX members are already reacting to the news with great excitement as the chosen weekend, 25th/26th June, will fit perfectly into their training programme for the Paris-Brest-Paris a few weeks later.

Local riders with long distance aspirations have an unprecedented opportunity to ride a 24 Hour time trial without the expense of traveling long distances to compete in an event. Promises to ride have been received from several very hot long distance men and Scotland’s finest, Georgie Berwick, is hoping that this event will see him achieve his target of fifty 24 Hour events.

Already offers of help are coming in from far and wide – including cycling officials from other areas and one very high profile past national champion at the distance.

Preliminary course details are now being finalised into an interesting route, challenging but not muscle crunching. Details on the Course Page. Based on the ESCA 100 mile course, with several interesting detours, the riders will then make their way to West Sussex for the hours of darkness and as day breaks return to finish on East Sussex roads. If you have never raced in the area before, there are a number of events during the next two years which you can use to familiarise yourself with the local roads. You will be following in the wheel tracks of some of the fastest riders in the country.
